Senator Hatcher released the following statement about House Bill 391.

“I am an ally of our transgendered youth. The exclusionary spirit inherent in HB391 concerns me greatly. As an African American male, in this country, I will always be on the side of those who are marginalized. In fact, James Ballwin captures my sensibility on such issues of marginality when he says—“To be African American is to be African without any memory and American without any privilege.”

It stands to reason that my vote of Abstention should be interpreted as my desire to spend more time thinking about and reflecting on the full consequences of HB391. Nevertheless, to be clear, if and when HB391 comes up for a vote on the Senate floor I will be a “No”vote.”
